A credit note is a letter that may be in the layout of a form that is sent from a supplier to a customer. They are sent to correct a mistake in an order. Examples of mistakes that can be made are invoices that are overcharged, if a discount rate is not applied or the best before date on a product is out of the guarantee period. The credit note states the amount that has been refunded from the suppliers account to the customers account.

A voucher is a document that can be used instead of money to pay for a good or service. Most retailers offer vouchers as they increase sales and attract new customers. Vouchers are usually purchased by customers as a present for someone else. The details that are stated on the voucher are the amount the voucher entitles the bearer to, who authorised it, where it is for and when the voucher expires.

A cash register is the machine used in a company to process a cash transaction. It records the amount of each sale. When using a cash register ensure that it is plugged in and that the key is on the regular setting. Ensure that there is receipt paper installed. A receipt is proof to the customer of the transaction that has taken place. When processing a transaction log in by entering your employee number and clicking clerk. This then puts your name on the receipt so that the customer knows who served them. Then enter in the goods that were bought by using the buttons on the till or scanning bar codes on the item. then get the sub total of all the goods and ask the customer for this amount. then cash off the sale and give the customer back their change. You can also clear or void a transaction using a cash register.

Voiding a sale means cancelling a transaction that has been authorised. It is different to a refund,. No money is transferred between a customer and a retailer when a sale is voided. A retailer may have to void a sale because of a last minute change of mind by the customer, because they have entered a wrong value or the customer has had a problem with the payment of the transaction and all items have to be cancelled.

A refund is when a retailer returns the amount of money a customer has paid for a product back to the customer. The retailer can return the sum to the customer with cash or return the money to the person's debit or credit card depending on the method they used to pay for the product first day. A retailer may have to give a refund if the product they have sold the consumer is faulty, not fit for purpose intended or does not match the sample. When a customer wants a refund they will have to have a receipt with them as proof of purchase.

This is when a consumer pays a retailer for a product electronically using a debit or credit card or now even by using their banking app on their phone. A retailer has a machine that is connected through the internet to the bank that records these transactions. Electronic transactions save time for the retailer and also reduces the risk of theft as there is less cash kept in the retailers store. There are also disadvantages to electronic transactions as it increases the risk of being hacked and the retailer would have to ensure they have reliable internet access.

Payment validation is proof that a payment made and the retailer received a sum of money from the consumer. When a consumer makes a payment a receipt is printed this is the proof of payment when this method of payment is used. the receipt states the products bought and amounts paid. When a consumer pays a retailer using a debit or credit card the electronic machine prints a merchants copy of a receipt. This then states whether the payment was valid or not.
