         <description><![CDATA[<div>Sometimes called hydropower, hydroelectric power is electricity that is generated by moving water. Often, this is accomplished by controlling the flow of water through a dam. While hydroelectric power produces no pollution and is renewable as long as water is available, it can have serious consequences. The building of a dam can damage the local environment and increase evaporation. Hydroelectric plants and <a href="http://go.galegroup.com.ezproxy.christchurchcitylibraries.com/ps/retrieve.do?resultListType=RELATED_DOCUMENT&amp;searchType=ts&amp;userGroupName=64ccc&amp;inPS=true&amp;contentSegment=&amp;prodId=MSIC&amp;docId=GALE%7CCJXKVJ189459560&amp;it=r#">dams</a> can also be costly to construct. As a result, this type of hydroelectric power may not be an ideal alternative energy source. There is, however, a second type of hydroelectric power called tidal power, which is generated from the energy of ocean waves. Because it does not require dams and can be collected offshore, tidal power is much less likely to cause problems and may become more popular in the future, though sites where it can be economically produced are limited.</div>]]></description>

         <title>In addition to solar power, wind power, hydroelectric power, and geothermal power, there are other types of alternative energy sources that may be of great use in the future. One of these is hydrogen power. Since hydrogen gas is widely available on Earth and can be converted into electricity, it could someday be used to power homes, cars, planes, and more. Nuclear fusion, which powers the Sun, could be used to produce an almost endless supply of power if proper fusion reactors can be created. Scientists also believe that nuclear waste could be used to generate energy, and that algae can be harvested for use as a type of fuel.</title>
