We are at the golf course my grandparents used to be members of and my zaidie would take all of his grandchildren (there are more of us, just not pictured!) out on a golf cart and occasionally let one of us "drive" it. Then we would take some swings and eat dinner all together. This photo makes me smile and is brought to life because it reminds me of happier simpler times and brings a smile to my face when I look at it. It captures the type of person my zaida was... a family man! He adored all of his grand children and relatives. This picture of a candle I took is a reminder of the contrast between light and dark, and how it is important to seek out the light especially when it feels darkest. The numerous books depicted represent the knowledge that I have yet to learn, which will serve as a guide to my practice of judaism. I grew up going to this shul so the photo captures a place where I feel at home. The picture tells the story of the shul: the scattered books used by those who visit, the kids parasha books for shabbos parasha class, and the big menorah for the shul’s large chanukah party. We were in Manual Antonio State park, eating breakfast at a resort hotel (that we weren't staying at), before hiking down to a beach where monkeys and coatimundis ran over the sand and stole our snacks. While I was standing on the beach I was attacked by biting bees, a lot of them. My parents felt the bees were attracted to my red sun shirt. Fortunately some contractors building a nearby hotel rescued us and got me away from the bees.
