Many oceanic habitats throughout the world have been influenced by outside human forces. In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, some coral reefs have even become completely bare due to overfishing and pollution. Although one might think that this would cause increased protection of the reefs that are currently in tact in a number of wildlife preserves and monument protections, one would be wrong. In fact, the exact opposite situation has been occurring. Organizations such as the Western Pacific Fishery Management Council have been advocating for decreased marine monuments, saying they, " “curtailed economic growth” and “compromised national food security.” ". However marine ecologists insist that now more than ever, the protection of these habitats is crucial. They predict that the value of these inviolate reserves will only increase. The reserves provide safe-havens for lazy fish who won't travel outside the boundaries of the reserve and therefore will stay alive longer. The destruction of these reserves would not only cause environmental but also biological harm.

Volume 2 of the National Climate Assessment focuses on Global Warming and Climate Change. Here are some of the topics it covers: Some environmental conditions that we predicted would eventually occur due to climate change are here. The rising water levels in the ocean have led to increased flooding in coastal towns. Although when it comes to air quality, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases have been the main focus, that is not the only threat. Climate change will also increase ozone levels and affect local weather patterns. There is also the worry of the impacts of an increase in other atmospheric pollutants such as smoke and ozone, which can lead to respiratory problems and even premature death. Climate change also poses a detrimental threat in the form of extreme weather conditions including deadly heat waves and coastal flooding.

Air pollution has been linked to respiratory issues for a long time, but new studies show that air pollution might also contribute to some psychological issues as well. It has been found that the severity of influence on mental health goes up with the increase in the number of particulates in the air. During a study, a team of researchers discovers that fine particulate matter could influence a person's psychological distress and that it is more harmful when breathed in than larger particulate matter. When stud results were categorized by race and gender, the data displayed the there was a larger correlation between air pollution and psychological distress with Caucasian women and African-American males. Researchers were unable to pinpoint the precise reason for the correlation, but it was more than clear that it was there.

Research has been found that some coral have genetic adaptations that allow them to tolerate slightly warmer water than they were originally accustom to. With this information scientists can determine if it is possible for the species to adapt quickly enough to survive global warming or if the rapidness of climate change will beat them into extinction. With the current trends of global warming, the coral wouldn't be able to survive, even with the help of its adaptation. However, with modification to the current trend, the coral may be able to prevent extinction. Scientists wonder, if the coral can adapt to the climate changes, would it be possible to help adapt other species?

Some people within the United States' federal government believe it would be wise to create a strategy to be prepared for disasters caused by climate change such as 2017's hurricanes and wildfires which cost the government around $300 billion. It is predicted that by 2050, the cost to manage these disasters may rise to $35 billion per year. Congressmen and others in government know that the government can't afford $300 billion each year to fix natural disasters caused by climate change. Many people understand that unless we diminish the rate and severity of climate change, the government won't be able to keep up.

As a topic that President Trump has continuously ignored, a report was issued from National Oceanic and Atmospherical Administration (NOAA) to prove just how real climate change is. It speaks of how if the environmental hazards with CO2 are left unchecked, by the end of the century, temperatures could rise as much as 5 degrees Celsius (9 degrees Fahrenheit). This would cause catastrophic repercussions on a global scale, but the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change has tried to limit that number to only 2 degrees celsius. Some are surprised this report was even made public, as opposed to, being hidden by Trump's administration. On numerous accounts, he has called climate change a hoax. This report is clear evidence that climate change is anything but fictitious.
