The Puritans, who founded the Salem Plantation, believed in being completely pure. They had separated from England because they didn't like the church and the rules so they made their own. If they had thought you were a witch they believed that killing was what God demanded. Their were ridiculous trials without evidence against people who were believed to be witches.
