'There’s Malcolm, who barely leaves the house except for work because his anxiety is so bad. There’s Jared, whose depression and body dysmorphia have steadily shrunk his social life down to me, the gym and Internet hookups. And there was Christian, the second guy I ever kissed, who killed himself at 32, two weeks after his boyfriend broke up with him. Christian went to a party store, rented a helium tank, started inhaling it, then texted his ex and told him to come over, to make sure he’d find the body. For years I’ve noticed the divergence between my straight friends and my gay friends. While one half of my social circle has disappeared into relationships, kids and suburbs, the other has struggled through isolation and anxiety, hard drugs and risky sex.'

Further, they reported having a smaller number of close family members, less support from their families, less community participation, and more strain in their friendships.

Importantly, while LGB respondents were less likely to have a partner than heterosexuals, those who were in relationships experienced similar levels of support and strain in their partnerships as heterosexuals.

This was one of my favourites due to its simplicity, it doesn’t boast any of the colours that I’d investigated but is stripped back and is a detailed sketch- if I were to redo this, I would’ve made the drawing in the middle larger - as due to me not drawing the background of the piece- it seems smaller when considering the edges.
