Are piano and harp in the string family?

They are. Piano is also in the percussion family, because the hammer inside the piano strikes or hits the strings to make them produce sound.

Why are the piano and harp not in any of the families?

I have never seen these two instruments not included with the strings family (or the piano in the percussion family) on a map before. Since I didn't make the map, I need to make an inference about why they aren't sorted into a family. Here is my guess: I think it has to do with the strings family being called the violin family. All the strings that are shaped like violins are in the purple section. The strings that are not shaped like violins (harp and piano) were not put into the violin section.
If I was making the map, I would have called it the strings section and put the harp and piano in the purple area.

Can we go on a field trip to the orchestra?

I would love to, but unfortunately the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony (our local and very excellent orchestra, which plays at the Centre in the Square in Kitchener) is not currently playing performances due to Covid. However, the musicians are practising at home and learning new music that they practise with the other musicians on Zoom.
It's not the same, but I do have some videos from orchestras that I will be showing you. We will also learn about each family of instruments!

Why is there only one of each instrument at the top of the map? (the percussion and brass sections)

These are loud and powerful instruments, so less are needed to be heard. Some of the percussion instruments are played only at certain times, like for emphasis or excitement or to help make a mood, so since they are loud, there can just be one onstage while the musician waits for those special moments to play.

Why do brass instruments (like the french horn) have the big round circle opening on them?

Brass instruments sound so powerful because of this big, round opening which shoots the sound waves out widely in every direction. We call this big round opening a "bell-shaped flare". This is different than the opening on woodwinds. Both instruments are blown into, but most woodwinds have a very small opening so the sound that comes out sounds much lighter and gentler.
