IT IS DIVIDED IN TWO PERIODS:
1- PALEOLITHIC - 2 million years ago:
     - People lived in caves and hunted animals. They dressed with animal skins.
     - They used simple tools. They discovered fire.
     - People were nomads, which means they moved from place to place.
2 - NEOLITHIC - 10,000 years ago. 
      - People began to live in one place.
      - They farmed crops and kept domestic animals such as sheep.

We know about this period because we have cave paintings, tools and other objects. 
IMPORTANT DISCOVERIES: 
- How to make fires.
- Later they invented the wheel

- ANCIENT ROME: They introduced many innovations in the places they conquered: roads, central heating, calendar, aqueducts, newspapers.
They came to the Iberian Peninsula and called it HISPANIA. They spoke LATIN, they worshipped different Gods.
Some examples in Spain are: Aqueduct in Segovia, Roman circus in Mérida.

- ANCIENT GREEKS - They developed ideas that are still important know such as: democracy, sports and olympic games, theatre, advances in maths / philosophy and science.They invented coins.

- ANCIENT EGYPT - Before Romans and Greeks. In the 8th century the Muslims came to the Iberian Peninsula from North Africa. They conquered part of it and called it AL ANDALUS. In the north there were small Christian Kingdoms.
Characteristics of both of them:
1. CHRISTIAN KINGDOMS:
    - They built many churches and monasteries ruled by priests and monks.
     - The king was the most important figure, followed by noblemen, which lived in castles and had soldiers and servants. Then the clergy.
     - Most people were peasants and lived in villages and worked the land.
2. AL ANDALUS - 
      - There were more towns and cities. 
      - They built mosques and beautiful palaces (Alhambra in Granada).
      - There were artisans and merchants. 

The Christians conquered Al-Andalus. This called "The Reconquista". In 1492 the Christians conquered Granada, the last muslim kingdom. Many explorers sailed around the world and discovered many places. 
In Spain this period is called "The Golden Age" as it was an important period for art and literature. 
INVENTIONS and OTHER FACTS:
- Printing Press by Gutemberg.
- Ships were better and faster.
- European explorers used the COMPASS (another invention) and made better maps.
