I would advise that the best way to handle this situation is talk calmly with the student and try to make her sure that you understand that she did not have to finished the activity already, but it is important to support her with other activity that she can achieve easily in the class.

What do you think your peer learned from this critical incident?

I think that the teacher learned that students have strong emotions when they feel lost or they feel frustrated about the lesson or topic. Also, the teacher has a better vision about how kids are sensible with this new emotions that they are not familiar with. And that is important to investigate more about children behavior and it is not just management.

Honestly, I would reacted the same, I just would tried to calm down my student with actions suhch as drink water, breath, wash her face, and take a short break, but I still know that is important talk with the student about their feelings and how she felt through the lesson and how I can support her to improve and progress together.
