This advertisement that the South Australian Department of Health used to influence people to prevent the spread of the influenza virus as well as get a flu shot aims to gross out its audience with slo-mo video of a group of people sneezing. The advertisement aims to make people want to wash their hands and associate influenza with these gross images so they feel more inclined to go out of their way to prevent the spread. The extreme gross reaction that people have to the video also help the advertisement gain popularity through word of mouth, spreading the message even more.

This advertisement for Dettol Glen 20 and hand wash is targeted at parents that want their kids to stay healthy and germ-free. It uses the scenario of kids going back to school to plant the idea of their children being in danger of germs into the viewer's head, and then giving the viewer the solution to that problem which is Dettol products. The advertisement also states that using Dettol hand wash will make children enjoy washing their hands, and it also throws in some statistics about how the hand wash kills 99.9% of germs.

Research Questions
- Why are people afraid of germs?
- Why are germs harmful?
- What is a way I can motivate people to buy my product?

Thobaben, M 2010, ‘Germs: Prevent the Spread of Infectious Diseases’, Home Health Care Management & Practice, vol. 22, no. 3, pp. 238-240

This article talks about the different types of germs, the various places they can commonly be found, and how to get rid of them. This includes but isn’t limited to: germs that live on sponges, toothbrushes, the laundry and salt and pepper shakers. This source was useful because it gave me information on places that germs live that some people might not have thought of before, and if I give new information to people in my promotional video, they will become more intrigued and start thinking about what they knew before and after they watched the advertisement.

Tracy Grimshaw & Brady Halls 2011, Public concerns over germs: Citizens express fears over germs, A Current Affair.

This news segment discusses the public’s views on germs and how people believe that there are less germs in their houses and kitchen areas than there actually are. The segment gives a microbiologist and an environmental testing expert time to talk about the dangers of germs and how common it is for cleaning properly to be overlooked. This source was useful as it gave examples of people trying to be clean but still overlooking certain parts of their kitchen that were covered in germs, as well as ways to clean the spots that are often missed. Giving examples of commonly missed spots in my video could cause people to want to buy the product so they can see where they missed when cleaning.

Friedman, D 1997, 'A new kind of germ warfare', U.S. News & World Report, vol. 122, no. 21, pp. 10

This article talks about the rising fear of germs in the general public, and how companies are using that fear to persuade the public into buying their products. The article also talks about how bacteria causes 40 million people to become sick every year. The source was useful as it gave insight into how the public becomes more paranoid and concerned about germs over time, as well as some statistics on how many people get sick from germs. Acknowledging that people are scared of germs in my video could help my product if I introduce it as a way to make them feel safer.

This PSA was used to inform children on the dangers of the germs that are found in dirt. The video is very child friendly and uses music and colourful, stylised drawings to grab kids' attention and help them remember the message of the video. The germs in the video are drawn as small scary monsters and infections are drawn as explosions inside of the body so that it is easy for children to understand that germs aren't good for you.

The aim of this video is to give the idea that germs may appear where people don't expect, and that they should use the product in order to fix this problem and keep themselves and their family safe.

The video starts with a person cooking a meal, the music is fairly upbeat and the editing between shots is fast paced as to give it the feeling of a very lively and happy cooking show, the food is then placed in a children's lunch box.
The video then rewinds and starts again from the start, however this time everything is a lot slower and darker, and germs are visible on various objects that the food touches, such as the chopping board and the kitchen bench, the food is once again placed in the lunch box but this time there are visible germs on the food that the child is going to eat.
The video then uses the remaining time to inform the viewer about the product and how it works, this final part of the video has a more neutral tone and isn't necessarily trying to get an emotional response.
