There are three things that I want to learn more on the topic of Architecture. First, I want to learn more on how I can understand a structure. Second, I want to know how they create their designs and concepts. Lastly, I want learn on how I can properly differentiate whether or not the architecture is beautiful.

Architecture before ART111

Architecture for me is merely a structure that occupies space. A building is an architecture, as well as a house and a church. Although, there are different styles and concepts in architecture, I don't see the point of observing or taking the time to appreciate it because it is just a design that makes the surrounding good. In time, it will lose its beauty and will be just known as an old construction. However, as we have discussed the principles and elements in architecture and as well as different forms, I realized that it is not merely a structure. In fact, it is more than that.

Learnings in Architecture

Throughout the modules, my opinions about architecture changed. There are a lot of things that need to be considered within this topic. One of which is the form of architecture. The form is an important aspect because through this the architecture will reveal its beauty and value. In addition, the form follows function. It means that the figure in itself has a purpose. The function influences and determines the form which produces the beauty of the design.

To better understand architecture, there are principles of construction and design, as well as elements involved in this. The principles of construction are the Post and Lintel, the Column and Entablature, the Arch and its Derivatives, and the Cantilever. These principles were the basis of architectural innovation and can be seen with the new concepts of architecture today. On the other hand, the principles of design are the emphasis and subordination, the balance, the scale and proportion, the rhythm, the harmony, and the contrast. These principles of design are used to arrange the elements which are the line, the colors, the texture, the space, the value, and the shape.
Aside from all these terminologies, in architecture one thing that be should noted with importance is its beauty. Not all art works are beautiful. Some are made with a unique design but if it does not meet its function then it is not beautiful. There are standards to consider and it should also be differentiated if it is an admirable or enjoyable beauty. Admirable beauty in art is objective for it is contemplated upon the art world. On the contrary, enjoyable beauty is subjective for beauty is in relation to the viewer.
In conclusion, there are a lot of things that I had learned within this month of learning about architecture. It cannot be summarized within this because before this subject, I know nothing about it. This was a new thing for me because it never caught my interest before. Nonetheless, I had enjoyed this topic and I would want to learn more of it.

The Thinker is the most famous work of a French artist named, Auguste Rodin. It is a sculpture of a pensive nude male that is located at the Rodin Museum in Paris. This sculpture is considered as fine art because it exemplifies beauty within it. It is a solid structure that presents the subject seated on a rock with his back hunched. His elbows on his knees and his chin is resting on his hand with his brows furrowed. Furthermore, the sculpture is seen to be a muscular and bulky man which depicts that thinking is a powerful exercise as it can also be seen with his clenched fist and his gripping toes. The Thinker is a work of art that is pleasing in the eye because all of its features come together and form one idea. The idea that it expresses beautifully is that the subject is a man in thought.

Zelazko, A (n.d) The Thinker. Encyclopedia Britannica.
