They've surpassed the numbers of native species in some places due to lack of natural predators, generalist diet, and their crazy rate of reproduction. The invasion of these species increases competition for food which could in turn cause a native species to become extinct. People are working on keeping up a constant removal effort to be rid of the Lionfish.  Marine Park rangers conduct lionfish workshops for volunteers or visitors who are interested in helping to remove the fish.
