He proves throughout the book that individual efforts are only a mere fraction of what is needed to achieve greatness, alongside luck, societal movements and demographics. I think it relates to the idea that collective movements have a great impact on what we perceive as a successful society and that no one can truly achieve its full potential based on pure individualism.
