That singular decision affected every generation after them and will continue to affect the generations after us. This is how we manage and live our lives. School hours, work hours, sleep hours, weekdays, months... everything we know relies on these hours, minutes and seconds that were chosen by the Sumerians.

It replaced its circular orbit with elliptical trajectories. It explained how planets' velocities vary and the orbits are not a perfect circle but more of an oval orbit and even that can vary. When William Harvey showed that the heart pumps blood through our bodies it changed the way doctors thought and worked. It helped them better understand the human body and allowed them to better help their patients.

The Mauritian "calvaria" tree stopped sprouting because the tree only sprouted seeds after being eaten and digested by a dodo bird.

It's said that the gravity equation can predict where other planets may be.

When Alfred Nobel invented dynamite he had the intention for it to be used for mining and building but when others started to use his creation for power such as bombs, canons, rockets etc, he started a trust fund to promote the peaceful use of science. This hopefully better changed the use of science and sent it in a positive direction.

The lightbulb extended work days, helped everyone travel safely at night and allowed social order after sunset.

It showed that atoms are mostly empty space and allowed scientists to better understand atoms and what everything around us is made of.

He wanted to make sure that everyone who needed insulin had access to it. He famously said, "Insulin does not belong to me, it belongs to the world." Insulin changed people's lives and the fact they could access it easily and for very cheap ($1) made everyone's life easier and felt safer.
