Origin - Nephele

The cloud nymph Nephele was a double created by Zeus in the shape of the goddess Hera.He did this to test the claim that King Ixion tried to violate her. Ixion took the bait and ended up raping the cloud nymph which gave birth to the centaurs. After Nephele was violated by King Ixion, she deposited her offspring on Mount Pelion in which they were nursed by Chiron.

King Ixion was the "father" of the centaurs. Ixion, the son of Aries, was the king of the Lapiths. He was banned from every city for kin-slaying, but would eventually be let into Olympus in which he would take a liking to Hera. In an attempt to have sex with her, he falls for Zeus' trap and brings the centaur to be born.
