The 'creation' of David Tennant took place when David McDonald attended the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 1987. As one of their youngest members he chose the stage name Tennant after Neil Tennant - the successful member of the Pet Shop Boys in the 80's.

His performance was well received not only by audiences but by the creative team as the writer Russell T Davies offered Tennant the role of the Doctor in his helming of a revived Doctor Who.
