The Nixon administration had been apart of a burglary of the Watergate facility involving the theft of government papers. Once people found out that Nixon had knowledge of this and was also involved, they hated Nixon. He eventually made the famous "I Am Not A Crook" speech. Soon after the incident, rumors of impeachment came about.
