The American Dream was coined by James Truslow Adams and he created this phrase in his book called "The Epic in America" in 1931. Overall my understanding of The American Dream is being able to achieve something that you desire or feel like is needed in your life. It's something that is able to be possible by determination and hard work. No matter your race, gender, and ethnicity at some point everyone is able to at least manage a part of the american dream. The American dream is where in America you're able to get the opportunity to create a better life for yourself and your family. It's to get a better education and better jobs, also to get more money so you can live a stable life. In a way you're able to do what you want as long as you have family, money, and important essentials to get you around.

I'd also want to finish and graduate high school. I hope by the time I finish with everything and I go on to my next chapter which is college, I hope to know what to do.

As of right now I'm still not sure what i would like to do as a career or what to major in for college but I did always dream of being a CSI(crime scene investigator) or a criminalist. Lastly, I always wanted to become a baker or even open a small business where I sell all of my baked foods. Considering since I love baking because it's a way for me to feel relaxed and in general it's something i enjoy so i wouldn't mind actually achieving that for a career.

The last thing I hope to achieve for my American dream would be to get a house big enough for the family that I want and also to get a nice car. I'd also hope to just live financially stable and to just live a nice and healthy life with my family and the few pets that I want to have. I'd love to also be able to travel and go explore places that I've never been to just to experience new things and do more fun stuff.

This poem which is titled "The American Dream" was written by Sammie Kelley and it demonstrates on how the American dream is dead in many ways because there are plenty of things that are going on around the world and although America is seen as 'great' and yes it may have opportunities for people, people struggle so much and the actions that are happening surrounding the people aren't the greatest. There are people who are in poverty and just lost in general, also there are many deaths that happen along with the amount of crimes and greed thats goes on. The children don't have parents or homes, they consume drugs which are "in their blood traces" like the speaker says. The speaker in general is hoping for a solution to come so America can be saved. At the end of the poem she says "if so then set me free" which I'm pretty sure it means that she doesn't want to be living in a world like that so she would rather not be here at all.

The person I interviewed was my mom Rosa Maria Coronado, she didn't have much to say about the American Dream because as she said herself she never really dreamed big. My mom defined the American dream herself as just being able to be financially stable and have the necessities like a house and a car. She also said that being able to achieve the American dream is possible as long as you put effort to achieve it and just work hard in general. Another thing is that she believes that you'll also be able to achieve the American dream by learning different methods and skills in life so you can get more opportunities and more of an advantage to get jobs. She managed to achieve parts of her dream but not all of them. The only things she wants now is a house of her own and maybe to have a little bit more money so that way she isn't struggling so much.

A book reference that can defend my thesis would be 'Of Mice of Men' by Steinbeck. It supports my thesis because in the book that Steinbeck created there are two characters that dreamed big of owning their own land and their own house but in the end it ended up not working out. They had gone through some trouble and well one of them had to lose their life and there was a third person who also wanted in, in the whole dream and was willing to help. Although once the incident happened they knew that they weren't going to be able to achieve the dream that they always wanted. Even though they each worked hard and made sure to gain as much money as they could to actually make the dream come true, in the end the dream just ended up being crushed and not achievable anymore. Therefore, Steinbeck reveals about the American Dream that in a way no matter how hard you can work and the amount of effort you try to put into a dream that you desire or want to achieve, it's not always gonna work out. That's the disappointing thing about it because when you really want something or dream big and it doesn't end up becoming true you tend to just get discouraged and end up feeling frustrated.

The video clip that I chose and I believe it goes along with my thesis is titled "The Great Gatsby". In this video it's just showing how 'Jay Gatsby' was born from poverty and ended up making it big, he became a very wealthy man who people knew only by rumors. Although, the way he would make money in order to stay wealthy was by doing illegal stuff. He was a people pleaser and always made sure to impress the people so that way he could keep his image and reputation. In the end, he ended up losing everything along with losing himself. He was never truly happy with himself but always made sure that others would think he was all great. Even after all the parties he threw and all the times he tried to impress others, no one cared not even once about him and he ended being the most lonely human being. I believe this goes with my thesis of how the american dream is dead because you could have all the wealth and you can know plenty of people but in the end you truly won't be happy especially with yourself.

The title of the article that I chose is called " 'The American Dream' " is dead, and barely existed to begin with" which was written by Kaleigh White. This article talks about how the American Dream is dead in many ways and also how in a way it's just defined in the most stereotypical way. The author explains that the American dream was made to make people believe it or see it in a certain way, she also explains how its more for white people and not people of color. For instance she says, " “The American Dream” has never been a privilege extended to persons of color, and that is certainly seen in both post-war consumerism as well as modern-day America." This shows how in a way the American dream was never specifically for those who were colored skin they never usually had the opportunity to make it big or be wealthy from the start and usually it's always seen that white people have that privilege. Another thing that she says is, "As the world has become more evolved, more jobs require education further than high school. Much to the working class’s disadvantage, the cost of higher education has disproportionately risen in comparison to the income of average Americans. This makes a college education much harder to achieve for people from lower-income families." (White). I agree with this most because the more time passed by the more things became more expensive, like just to have an education so you can get a better job or opportunities in the end all that is so expensive and for those who struggle financially aren't able to achieve those things and they tend to struggle more on getting what they need.
