The coolest place I went to was Norton’s Children’s Hospital. That experience will stay with me,if not forever, for a very long time. I found it amazing that I was able to brighten up the day of children and parents who were going through so much and it really impacted me. If I had the opportunity to do it again I would leap at the chance. That experience taught me that sometimes even the small act of giving a child a toy can change someone’s day or even their life. My other experiences taught me that sometimes plain old hard work can be fulfilling. I think the community service project should be continued at school. It gives students who don’t normally volunteer or do work in their community a chance to do so. At first I was like this is gonna stink and be super boring. The first volunteer experience I had kind of lived up to that. The second one I went to though really started showing me the joys of service.I think the key to community service is finding something that you have a passion about or are interested in. If you do that then community service can be a great time and a fulfilling experience. I think students should be exposed to community service and how it can not only affect the lives of others but your own life as well. As you can probably tell by now I really enjoyed this project. I thought it was great allowing me to get more exposed to community service. In the future will now be way more open to volunteering and participating in community service. I was a course worker, so my job was to set up cones and to direct the runners in the right direction. It was kinda fun but it wasn’t the coolest service project I could have done. Next I helped out the Floyd Central Theater program during their moving of their Newsies set. I helped out with my sister and my dad. We moved a lot of the heavier  set pieces into a box truck. We had to place them on dollies and cart them throughout the school. It was cool to have my family there with me and it made the experience more enjoyable. The Major thing I did was the Norton Children’s hospital toy drive. For football we collected a bunch of toys and gifts for the kids at Norton’s Children’s Hospital. The seniors who were eighteen or older during fall break were able to go and deliver the gifts to the kids. This was probably my favorite community service experience. We arrived at Norton’s and met with the Toy drive coordinator. She split the four of us who were there into to two groups. I got sent to the west wing. At first it was really awkward going into the rooms because the kids just woke up from napping or just got back from treatment. A majority of the kids were very tired and drained. When we brought in the cart the kids would see the toys and their faces would light up. Play dough was a fan favorite. I remember one girl who was our age was sitting in her room eating jello and watching The Price is Right, and it reminded me of my grandmother. Another experience I remember is a girl who was 5 weeks old. When we went into the room it was full of doctors and there was this tiny infant, no bigger than a pencil case. She was all wired up and there were tubes everywhere. I felt so bad for her. Her mother reached over to us and asked us what she could have and we said anything you want. She grabbed a blanket and the little girls grabbed it with her hands immediately and it was adorable. t was such a cool experience seeing for just a moment the kids forgetting about their illness and being able to grab a toy.
