Metamorphic rocks start as one type of rock, but over time changes their original forms of either igneous, sedimentary, or earlier metamorphic. Metamorphic rocks are formed when rocks are exposed to high heat, pressure, and hot mineral-rich fluids; more commonly a combination of these factors.

Foliated Rocks: As the parent is squeezed with pressure during recrystallization it forms the platy or elongated minerals, causing for the rock to become aligned or foliated. Foliated rocks structure indicates the direction pressure was applied in.

Non-Foliated Rocks: It is the opposite of a Foliated rock, there is not platy. Non-foliated rocks form in many ways, some rocks like limestone are made of minerals that are not flat or elongated.
