This 5-minute teaching demo helps Kindergarten students identify and express basic emotions through colors, using The Color Monster by Anna Llenas. Students will listen to the story, discuss feelings, and color their own monsters to show how they’re feeling.

SL.K.1 – Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about kindergarten topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.

1. Read or picture-walk through The Color Monster.

2. Show large color cards (yellow, blue, red, black, green).

3. Call on students to pick a color and say:

   • “This color means ___.”

   • or “I feel ___ when ___.”

4. Give each student a Color Monster worksheet to color based on their current feeling.

5. Play soft music while they color.
