Mystery Number 8 – Back Tracing Game
SS will explore number recognition and formation of the number 8 through a tactile version of “broken telephone.” SS will stand in a line, and starting with the TCH, each student will use their finger to trace the number 8 on the back of the friend in front of them. The number is passed down the line until the last SS, who will say out loud which number they think it is. The class will then review the shape and stroke order of the number 8 together, reinforcing fine motor memory, number formation, and attention to detail.

PQ:
What number do you think was traced on your back?
How can you tell it was the number 8?
What does the number 8 look like?

DIFF:
Emerging
SS will trace the number 8 on a textured surface (e.g., sandpaper card) before the game to build motor memory.

MATERIALS:
None needed for the game
For emerging SS: sandpaper number 8, number cards for review
