Asia claimed that she saw Adnan in the library the day that Hae was murdered. Adnan's defense attorney, Cristina Gutierrez, did not mention her in her defense, but Asia is a potential alibi for Adnan. Chapman says that she was with Adnan at the high school at 2:15. She remembers this detail with clarity, because she usually left the school at 10:45 AM as part of her academic program, but on Jan. 13th 1999, she was in the Woodlawn Public Library for hours, waiting on her boyfriend to give her a ride. She tells the court that she spoke to Adnan for 15-20 minutes. This is one of the most important pieces of evidence that supports Adnan's innocence, which is what makes it so significant. Asia's statement completely ruins the state's timeline, making it vital in proving Adnan's innocence. This encounter's importance is evident, because not only can Asia vouch for him as an alibi, but her boyfriend at the time saw him there, too.

The AT&T coversheets regarding cell tower information stated, “outgoing calls only are reliable for location status. Any incoming calls will NOT be considered reliable information for location.” During the time of the murder, AT&T was having a glitch with the way their cell towers pinged. The cell tower pinged close to the person making call rather than the person receiving it. This means that the two calls Adnan received (7:09 and 7:16) that binged the towers near Leacon park show that the person who called Adnan was near Leacon Park. This is significant because it could prove that Adnan was not at the park during the time Hae was buried; it would have been the person who called Adnan's phone who was actually there.

The prosecution used Adnan's status as Hae's boyfriend as evidence that he killed her. Based on statistics, they argued that intimate partners are frequently the ones who are found to be the murderers. Based on statistics provided by the Bureau of Justice Statistics report, there is a 1/5 chance he killed Hae. There is no doubt that Adnan should have been investigated due to his connection to Hae, but how can they convict him with certainty, if there is such a slim probability that he is linked to the ? This is extremely significant, because the State's case was based entirely on this statistic, but this murder-by-numbers approach has its own faults: it relies on inaccurate numbers and faulty application of the data. i hate you

Many times during Jay's interviews with the detectives, he paused for large amounts of time. During the times he paused, a tapping noise could be heard coming from the detectives, and suddenly Jay would remember what he was saying. He even responded to these taps by saying, "Oh, okay." This indicates that during the period of time before the interview was being recorded, Jay and the detectives created a code to use to direct Jay's story. This piece of evidence serves as an example of how Jay's story changed significantly from the first time he told it to the last. Also, it's now possible that the detectives directed him and had him alter his account in order to fit the evidence they had against Adnan. This shows that the detectives may have been a very influential factor in the reason Adnan was convicted of murder.

The Nisha call was emphasized in the prosecutors closing argument, but there are a lot of things that just don't add up about this particular call. Nisha says that as she was talking with Adnan, there was a mention of Jay working at the adult video store, except there is one problem with that. Jay didn't work at the store until 2 weeks after Hae's murder. She also thinks that the call happened "towards the evening". 3:32 was shortly after school for the students, definitely not considered the evening. Lastly, she has the impression that Jay had invited Adnan somewhere, but according to the state's timeline, they should have already been together. Jay never mentioned this call when he was interviewed the first time, but when he was confronted with call logs, just as Detective MacGillivary said in court, Jay "remembered things a lot better". Jay was re-configuring his story so that they would match up with the call logs. When he was interviewed the second time, he suddenly remembered the call, but got all major and significant details about the call wrong. He said the call happened significantly after the call to Patrick, but the Patrick call was made at 3:59 PM, while the Nisha call was made at 3:32 PM. He also mentions that to call was between 7 to 10 minutes, and that he spoke with her for about 3 of those minutes, but the call was only 2 minutes and 22 seconds.

This is important because if he wasn't with her after school and had to find a ride from someone else then there's no way he could of killed her with the time slot allotted by the state. This causes us to question how Adnan was able to get to Best Buy if Hae hadn't given him a ride.

Adnan's lawyer, Cristina Gutierrez, was known as a "pitbull on the pant-leg of justice," but her behavior during trial may have been the deciding factor of Adnan's conviction. The first trial of this case ended in a mistrial due to an argument between Gutierrez and the judge. According to Sarah Koenig, the first trial had been siding with Adnan, which was decimated upon them returning for a second trial. Also, by the time the second trial began, Gutierrez was suffering from poor health, and possibly poor judgement as well. Her cross-examinations were jumbled and it was difficult to understand her sentences. Along with her poor actions in court, Gutierrez was accused of bullying clients into paying for legal services she never produced, and eventually agreed to be barred. This information on Cristina Gutierrez proves that Adnan may have been represented by someone who wasn't 100% focused on proving his innocence. Her actions portray her as someone motivated to make money off of a case rather than taking the time to represent her client properly. This shows that Adnan wasn't reasonably represented during trial and that his conviction may have been the result of Gutierrez's actions.

For example, Adnan's note to Aisha stating "I'm going to kill," did not include any context, yet the jury automatically used it in connection with Hae's murder. The assumption that this one note is associated with her murder is not supported by any additional evidence, showing that evidence not specifically related to the case was repeatedly used against Adnan, ultimately portraying him as the murder. This manipulation helps Adnan's case because is shows the way the jury acquitted him without specific evidence related to the case, possibly hinting a faulty sentence.

Jeff G

Jeff G was referenced 2 times during Adnan's case. Jay is the one who mentions him, saying in his statement that Jeff G. drove him to Woodlawn on January 13th, 1999. He was first mentioned in Jay's narrative of the events that transpired on the 13th. According to Jay, he was located at the Pusateri household until around 3:45, but after that he left to go to Jeff's. When he got there Jeff wasn't home, and as soon as he left Jeff's house, that is when he got the "come pick me up call from Adnan". In the image connected to this post, we see Jay retract this statement saying that it was a mistake that they wrote that down in their notes. How can we, as citizens, base someones case and entire life on a man whose story changes with the wind? This referencing of another person opens up the possibility that someone else could have been the prime suspect, not Adnan. Evidence of Jeff being mentioned in Adnan's interviews increases the likelihood of Adnan not being the murderer., because Jay's story doesn't add up.

Was Hae Raped?

When investigating the crime scene it was stated that Hae was not raped; however, the detectives did no tests to figure out if this was true. It was noted that Hae's skirt was pushed up when they found the body. Also, the hairs found on Hae's body did not match that of Adnan's. This is significant because not only does it point towards Ronald Lee Moore but also away from Adnan.

Reviewing the autopsy report we came across the fact that her clothes were lifted up/ripped apart and that could point to Hae possibly being raped. If she was then it could point to another person killing her like ______ because his motive was to rape a girl and then strangle her.

Roy Sharonnie Davis III

Roy Sharonnie Davis III was convicted in 2004 for the murder of Jada Danita Lambert, who also went to Woodlawn High School. The murder happened in May of 1998, so not too far away from when Hae was killed. Lambert's body was located in Northeast Baltimore, in a stream in Herring Run Park. The teenager had been raped and strangled. This is significant, because it show the jury that there are other explanations. It isn't Jay did it or Adnan did it. This theory provides the jury with reasonable doubt, and takes the focus off of Adnan. It makes them question the validity of the prosecution, because it is a possible expanation for what happened.

Lack of Proper Defense

From the Jeff G situation the defense counsel could have done a lot, but there was a lack of development. They could have testified that there were no incoming calls between 3:15 and 4:27, but if Jay originally said he got the Best Buy call from Adnan after leaving Jeff's house, this would have been impossible, because the calls don't add up to the timeline he is providing for the investigators. Failing to ask Jay to identify which call on the call logs was the come and get me call was a huge mistake made by Adnan's defense. A question like that could have entirely dismantled the State's case. This is important to point out, because it shows that Adnan's defense attorney, didn't do all that she could to ensure Adnan got a fair trial. It is important that the jury know that his defense practically sabotaged herself and her client, but ignoring and disregarding important points in the case, that would have helped Adnan out in the long run.
