Discoveries like the Americas might not have happened when they did, and the connection between different cultures would have taken much longer. The compass truly changed the course of history.

Before that, people wrote on bamboo, silk, or stone, but those things were heavy and expensive.

The main use of paper is for writing, drawing, and keeping information. Thanks to paper, people could make books, letters, and schools became possible.

It was invented on December 23, 1947, at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey by three brilliant scientists: John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley.

So, what does it do? Essentially, a transistor has two main jobs. It can act as a switch, turning electronic signals on and off, which is the fundamental principle of digital computing. It can also act as an amplifier, taking a weak signal and making it much stronger.

Now, imagine a world without the transistor. We'd still be in the age of bulky, unreliable, and power-hungry vacuum tubes. Computers, if they existed in any recognizable form, would fill entire rooms. The portable electronics we rely on daily – smartphones, laptops, and even modern medical devices – would be the stuff of science fiction. The digital revolution, the internet, and the interconnected world we live in today simply would not have been possible without this tiny, revolutionary invention.
