As the Indian Education Coordinator for Sampson County who serves a small community of Indigenous students. I have been working closely with our superintendent to bring awareness and highlight that they have Indigenous students and communities in their backyard. We have been trying to let admin and teachers know that we are a rich and plentiful resource that can add to many subject areas throughout the year not just during the month of November. I would love for the districts to initiate and sustain partnerships with the Indian Ed programs.

With the transition to the new student information system, certain data points (506 Numbers) that are critical for our Title VI programs were not transitioned for the American Indian student population for the initial group. We hope to ensure this is integrated by July for our second group.

Various tribal communities host "Education Day" during their annual powwow (Waccamaw Siouan, Lumbee, Guilford Native) and bring out local public schools to learn more about the local tribal culture. The Waccamaw Siouan have a great model for this!

Good morning. I am an employee here at NCDPI in the Office of Federal Programs. It is too noisy to come off of mute: I propose offering diverse schooling options in North Carolina, such as dual language, career-focused CTE programs and more, particularly in rural areas. Traditional schools don't always serve every student best, and expanded choices are especially crucial for our Native students.

Indian Education For All

I would love to see Indian Education For All. A cohesive, tribally vetted curriculum that mandates all students in NC have the opportunity to learn about tribal communities in NC. This would provide curriculum, resources, information and professional development to schools/ educators to ensure fidelity and implementation. Minnesota has a model for this.

I would like to add to what Consuela said about identifying ALL of our American Indian students in the system. Other than the 2 or more category, in our urban areas, we have the issue of Asian Indians checking the American Indian box and so their data is included with our students which skews the data for our students. This is a challenge that I don't have an answer for other than adding another racial code

Another big idea for NC Public Schools is to allow parents to blend learning in whatever ways works best for their child. Online, brick, and College promise options without making it punitive where the child has to select options in an out of school time environment.

A person has to love what they do to work in Education. I went to get my master's degree in order to become a school counselor because that is absolutely what I LOVE. Becoming the "family" that some of these kids so desperately need is everything to me. However, I live check to check and will never have enough money to pay back all of those college loans. There are more people in Education working a second job to make ends meet and our kids are seeing this. Most of the kids who would be wonderful teachers, counselors, social workers, etc are chosing other careers so that they can afford to live. Not to mention the state of so many of the schools and little to no support to so many educators by administration. I was so excited to see one of my former students come to a school where I worked and she didn't even finish her student teaching because of the way the students behaved and no support. It is just sad. We are having to beg for educators and so many positions remain unfilled...

It's been mentioned that our teachers and school counselors (certified staff) need higher pay and incentives. To me, I think this should apply to classified staff and support personnel as well. My husband works as a safety supervisor for the Transportation Department of the Public Schools of Robeson county and has been with them for almost 20 years now. His pay has not changed much over the last few years even though he has been promoted in a supervisor position. Classified staff such as our maintenance workers, custodians, cafeteria workers, bus mechanics, bus drivers, etc. often get overlooked but they are very much a part of the "village" that it takes to make sure NC Public schools grow and shine.

Can we create a PLEAT in PowerSchool or Infinite campus, similar to the Language Home Survey, to include does the student have any Native American ancestry to help schools and programs readily identify students.
