I am inspired to learn from other teachers in the department as they design their lessons. More importantly, in my own preparations of SLS lessons previously, I did not consciously think about how the 4 LEs can play a part. However, learning about the different experiences can better guide me in my lesson design of SLS lessons. It is also helps me to guide and mentor the teachers to ensure their lessons are clear and to not just to keep the teachers in mind but the students as well. It is important to ensure the practicality of lessons so that the lessons can be used as a teaching tool as soon as possible. I grow with the teachers and I enjoy learning from them. It is insightful to hear about their lesson ideas and how we can guide one another to ensure a good learning experience for both the teachers and students. The comments that teachers give are also insightful and help the mentors and teachers grow.

I have learnt that asking the right questions is the key when facilitating. In order to ask the right questions, we need to be well-equipped with the knowledge of the different LEs and also the different ways of harnessing technology in the different lesson designs. It was truly enriching to study the different lesson designs come up by fellow teachers. The feedback given by teachers after the presentations is a good way to gauge if the facilitation is going in the right way. I have also learnt to focus on key points and not everything that the teachers have given feedback on so as to make learning more meaningful in the short period of time allocated to us.

The preparations for the LEs sharing provided an opportunity to equip myself with more insight into relevant contents as we as in-depth knowledge. While checking-in and giving feedback on group members’ lesson design, I remained open to learning from others, and treated everyone's input valuable. Serving as a group facilitator, the support we provided to teachers was very important. I enjoyed discussing and reviewing what they had done with the lesson design, step-by-step, to make sure that everyone understood it.

I am more aware of the 4 LEs when I am planning for SLS lessons. When going through SLS lessons with teachers in my group, I used the facilitation notes and the elements of a LE. I learned a lot from teachers in the group when going through the lesson plans. I have enjoyed discussing and reviewing SLS lesson plans with teachers.

Am I ‘doing’ facilitation or ‘being’ a facilitator? As a facilitator, there’s a tendency to 'do' and focus on the effectiveness of the session by gauging my communication skills and how the group respond to one another. To be an effective facilitator, I learnt how to focus on the group as a whole and emphasise the importance of working collaboratively, be genuine and reflective as part of the learning process. The group responded and reacted positively to one another’s comments on Padlet, with the knowledge and understanding of the issues discussed. I value the dynamics in the group and look forward to more in-depth and insightful conversations as we deepen our learning. There are more attributes of an effective facilitator not mentioned here and it's an ongoing learning process. Let's continue to encourage and spur one another on!

I am definitely more aware of the 4 LEs when planning my lessons. It gives me better focus and direction as well as clarity of mind in ensuring that my lessons designed to meet the specific LE. I felt it was quite tough to actually give feedback to the different groups as I am learning about LE, myself and it is actually enlightening to see how other teachers apply this LE in their respective lessons. The notes really helped. Definitely (plenty of) learning in progress for me.

Before I can facilitate, I find myself going back to Opal and SLS to familiarise myself with the 4 LEs so that I can answer the queries and help guide the teachers along. Facilitating helps to deepen my own understanding of lesson designs for each LE and how to translate the acquired knowledge to better pedagogies in the classroom in terms of the use of ICT and promote thinking routines. Learning with and from colleagues is both inspiring and enriching, a professional and personal growth for my teaching and learning.

My chief takeaway from the learning journey was to focus on positive intentions. The agenda was set on student learning so we discussed student learning, not the teachers. Every member felt safe because conversation was anchored on the students. And it provided an avenue to talk about changes needed to meet student needs.

As a facilitator, I also benefitted from the value of learning with and from my teammates. I learned to listen carefully, engage in give-and-take discussions, share my own ideas, get other ideas, and build on both sets of ideas. Such kind of collaboration helped my teams and me answer the issues we will be facing and developed our capacity to improve teaching and learning.

As a facilitator, I have learnt how to guide the conversation and discussion to be focused on the design of the LE lesson packages. It is a brand new experience for me and there are many areas that I can continue to improve on, especially the questioning techniques. Apart from that, I am also learning to design the SLS lesson packages based on the LEs in order to achieve the lesson objectives effectively. The sharing by the teachers are inspiring and helpful for each and everyone of us to continue to grow and reflect in our own subject expertise.
