TINY TIM Tiny Tim has been crippled from birth, which he finds obviously very difficult to walk, which is why he is always in need of a walking stick. Its so sad and disappointing because this boy is so young and has so much to live for, however being poor, with limited money, his family does not have the option to be able to help him. It is so unjust, that someone so young has to go through something like this, very unfair.

SCROOGE Throughout this stave, Scrooge realises all the unjust things he has done and what he has become. He figures that he can be happy, and that he can sing along and dance with others and actually enjoy it. He also realises how much Bob son; Tiny Tim is struggling. He feels emotionally sad and heartbroken that Bob and his wife cannot pay to help him. This could be that Scrooge is not paying Bob the right amount for the work hours and ethic he puts in.

Scrooge awakens when the church clock strikes at one. He hoped to have met his second spirit once he woke up, however that didn’t occur. After fifteen minutes a bright lights begins to brighten upon him. This was then when the second spirit had finally arrived, the Ghost of Christmas Presents. Once they had met, the spirit ordered Scrooge to touch his robe. The second he did, Scrooge finds himself vanished instantly and finds himself in a busy city, on Christmas morning. After the city, he then takes him to Bob Cratchit home, his worker. He sees him with his family preparing a Christmas treat that they could afford. Scrooge witnesses Bob holding his younger son “Tiny Tim”, crippled, getting carried on his fathers shoulders. The spirit says that there will be an “empty chair at next years Christmas dinner”. The spirit then takes Scrooge to more Christmas gatherings, with the festivities of a remote community of miners and a party aboard a ship. He also takes Scrooge to Fred's Christmas party. Scrooge was having a blast, dancing and singing to the music that was playing, however none of the guest could see him, as he was invisible. As the night develops, the ghost grows older and older. In the end, the ghost shows Scrooge a pair of starving children who travel with him beneath his robes. Scrooge asks if nothing can be done to help them. Disdainfully, the ghost quotes Scrooge's earlier retort, "Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?" The spirit then disappears as the clock strikes midnight.

In the third stave we come across the Cratchit family. Tim Cratchit is a young boy who is unable to walk. Because his family are so poor, Tim’s future is very grim. In the world today, more than one hundred years later. There still families who cannot afford medical treatment. The great social divide is still evident in society today. Kerry Packer, was a wealthy businessman. He hada massive heart attack but was revived by ground breaking medical technology –the defibrillator. At the time such equipment was only available to the rich. However after his brush with death, Packer donated a large sum of money to the New South Wales Ambulance service for the purchase of portable defibrillators for every ambulance. As Kerry Packer showed generosity to the society that helped him. Should Scrooge do the same by helping the Cratchit family? “Spirit” said Scrooge, “tell me if Tiny Tim will live”. “I can see a vacant seat…. and a crutch without an owner” Scrooge’s response of the spirit shows how devastated he is. He feels bad and wants the boy to live. We see Scrooge showing a softer and sensitive side to his character.
