In response to the declining birth rate, Chia Chi made the transition to a co-educational institution in 2016. Currently, Chia Chi offers three programs: senior high, senior vocational, and a dance program as part of its talented education curriculum.

Chia Chi Senior High School comprises 30 classes in the senior high school program, including two experimental classes for each grade: the Bilingual Experimental Class and the Math and Science Experimental Class. Additionally, we have three classes in the dance program and 18 classes in the senior vocational school program, which includes two departments: Fashion Design/Styling Design and Food and Beverage Management.

Through the collective efforts of our dedicated teachers and students, Chia Chi has achieved outstanding academic and extracurricular performances. We take pride in the accomplishments of our students and believe that Chia Chi is steadily progressing towards a promising future.

They also designed obstacle course activities, guided by picture cards, to conduct biological identification using animal and plant footprints and excrement. Chia-Chi Senior High School's culinary arts department participated in the "National Senior High School Professional Group Science Project and Creative Competition" organized by the Ministry of Education. They achieved first place in the creative category with their "Cocoa Full Food Project." Additionally, the fashion design department made a remarkable accomplishment, receiving an excellent award for their project "Wooden Planes as Clothing."

During a visit to the Cocoa Garden in Neipu Township, Pingtung, students from the culinary arts department, Chen Huanyu, Chen Ciwen, and Huang Yuxin, were curious about the possibility of reusing discarded ingredients from the production process. They decided to use discarded "cocoa pods" as the material for their project. Through continuous experimentation and creative exploration, they successfully devised a way for people to fully enjoy an entire cocoa bean.

On the other hand, students from the fashion design department, Tseng Yuqing, Lin Pinzhu, Lin Yuwei, and Wang Yongzhen, guided by Teacher Zhan Yawen, incorporated wood planing into their clothing designs. This dialogue between the entire outfit and natural materials resulted in outstanding design aesthetics.

In late March, students from Tainan First High School and Chia Chi Senior High School were spotted squatting at street corners to collect cigarette butts. Photos of their activity were taken and shared on the internet, receiving widespread praise from netizens. On the 24th afternoon, Yang Zibe, Li Zhiqi, Chen Junzhe, Lin Tongyun, and over a hundred high school students organized another event, going to streets such as Guohua, Zhengxing, Kangle, and more to pick up cigarette butts. Citizens and tourists who supported the event's purpose signed on team flags.

In alignment with this "Smoke-Free Tainan" initiative led by high school students, the Tainan Environmental Protection Bureau simultaneously launched "Smoking Reduction, Cigarette Butt Cleanup, and Street Cleaning" events in 37 administrative districts. In just one hour, it is estimated that over 120,000 cigarette butts were collected. The students transformed the collected cigarette butts into an art installation.

About cigarette butts:
Cigarette butts are small and easily overlooked, yet they are almost ubiquitous. Contrary to what many people believe, cigarette butts are not harmless. They are primarily composed of a synthetic plastic called cellulose acetate, asbestos fibers, and more. The time required for natural biodegradation is incredibly long, resulting in significant environmental harm.

The key issue here is that during the processing of cellulose acetate, a non-biodegradable substance is formed due to chemical reactions. Furthermore, cigarette filters absorb various toxic pollutants during their use, which could ultimately be ingested by humans through bioaccumulation.

Our school was founded just over 400 years ago. It is now a co-educational school with 1300 pupils aged 4-18.

We have many sustainability initiatives in school. There is a student led Eco Committee which organise events such as clothes and books swops and returning lost property. In addition each year there is a sustainability week when there are lectures about sustainability and each person is invited to make their sustainability pledge. On our school website you can read more about what Alleyn’s is doing for sustainability.
