The second part of the quote is when Yael is thinking to herself when she was very young asking herself this crazy question? 

This quote is very important because it shows what the mindset of the Nazis was. How they distinguished people by two characteristics. Pure or not pure. Because they call Yael not pure she starts wondering if the color of their blood was different or not. This is one of the first times I've seen a book that is in the world of Adolf Hitler winning and defeating most of Europe. The book kept the Holocaust going which makes it even more intense because the whole book is basically about the struggles young Yael had to go through just because she was Jewish.
