INTEREST, is such a clever word choice to say the least, but having an interest is enjoying what you love to do. A skill that you're good at. For myself, being the country guy that I am, I really love fishing. Everything about fishing, I love it. I can remember the first time I was taken fishing by my older cousin. Although in the beginning I didn't really know what I was doing, I still took interest in it at an early age. I didn't ever thing years later that it would still be a "thing" for me. I'm very grateful for the experience, being that it's been a skill I've worked at for some time now and I've advanced in a many of ways to the point where I have fishing channel presence on youtube as well as on tiktok.

PRACTICE

PRACTICE, is necessary, when it comes to wanting to level up your ability to be great at what it is that you take great interest in. Along with fishing, I also take a strong interest in softball. Any sport you play, practice is involved in order to win a game and brush up on your weaknesses. I can go back in time and remember when I was fair in skill, but sports have always been a natural gift for me. Although natural, I still had to put in the necessary time and dedication to be considered one of the best in the lineup. I'm grateful that practice is a thing, being that, how could you ever be great at anything, if you don't ever take the time to practice your skills.

PURPOSE

PURPOSE, I could only hope that everyone has a purpose in life, but at times, that might not be present in our search as to what we strive for in life, but purpose is what drives our intent. Knowing the road the destination of your life and what you want will always be your purpose. For example, I knew I did not want a career working in a factory, so several years back, I planted my foot into the financial field. I knew what I did not want, so I let that purpose of want to guide me directly to the career I wanted. I currently work with fraud cases each day, outside of furthering my education. Purpose is not limited. You have to know what your purpose is and why you're doing it. This alone creates a feeling of happiness and success, leading to a motivated mindset to move forward on your journey.

HOPE

HOPE, is having the drive to push when things get unbearable, not giving up on the goal you've set forth to accomplish. For myself, I've found myself working long hours at a job, knowing that I had to come home and unwind from a long day and still proceed to accomplish the start and finish of a homework assignment. Although I'm tired and mentally drained, I still have to keep hope that I'm going to push through and still do well at completing the assignment and it gains an acceptable grade that suffices as a well above passing grade. Without hope and faith as a whole, the journey can be strenuious in itself, when you're an adult juggling life along with responsibilities.

GROWTH VS. FIXED MINDSET

GROWTH - Having a growth mindset is knowing that you have room to grow, in means of not thinking you're a know it all. Doing the research on subjects that are important to your skill that opens more options within the skill you may have. It's almost like that of taking advice from an adult when you're younger. Nine times out of ten, that very advice guided you in a way, that you never could have imagined. Asking for feedback to critique your skill and making mistakes and learning from them would be a good example of a growth mindset.

FIXED - Having a fixed mindset is being shutoff from learning and wanting to do better within life as a whole. Downgrading your own capabilities and not having hope in the things that are before you. Not following through with plans and just being a quitter to say the least. For example you're on a track team and all you've practiced for, is the last race of the season to become a state champ, but yet you decide to give up at the last minute of the race being that you've lost hope in your ability. This in itself is a fixed and non motivational mindset.

GRIT - In the previous provided video of J. Cole giving advice, I feel as though J.Cole knew his purpose and knew exactly the goal at hand to create the success in his craft. He pinpointed what exactly he needed to do differently when it came to him writing songs. The fact of making the decision to not take a break from writing, is a growth mindset as a whole being that he was open to the learning process of a change. J. Cole decided to keep writing and this created hope in the process. Hope allowed him to trust in the journey of change to know that it would make a major difference in his music and sound. J. Cole stated that he had to trust that the first line he wrote, would lead to the second line. I felt this was a really good example in having hope.

I feel as though J.Cole used the best example of a growth mindset, being that he was willing to take the risk in order to grow, which means he decided to trust his process of writing more than before. Embracing the challenge of wanting to take a break from writing, to think things through to push himself to keep writing, trusting that line one, would flow into line two. Making this slight change of thinking, J. Cole was able to reach higher levels of achievement and if you go research his creations, it will prove his worth, as well as his breaking of barriers in the music industry.

As a student, I feel as though GRIT will encourage me to embrace the challenges that may come my way throughout the different classes that I will have to obtain for my degree. Grit provides that understanding that I have to face the challenges head on so that it will prepare me to cope with the unseen changes within school as well as apply it to life as a whole. Facing things head on allows my mind to grow and learn from my mistakes and my accomplishments. Grit helps me to understand it's good to go harder within my skill, considering it contributes to my growth and provides me with a sense of knowing the achieventment meant for the time invested. Overall GRIT will be the foundation for my success as a student from this point moving forward.
