“Okonkwo never showed any emotion openly, unless it be the emotion of anger. To show affection was a sign of weakness; the only thing worth demonstrating was strength”

In chapter 4 when Ikemefuna became a respected member in Unofia and became close to okonkow and had a good influence one Nowye , okonknow did not show any affection or emotions toward him .
This quote conveys the theme of parent and child relationship because Okonkow was greatly affected by his father bahaviour and how he used to act , he always acts tough so he is not like his father . Even though he loved Ikemefuna but he did nothing when he was killed because he did not ruine his masculine image .

“And immediately' Okonkwo's eyes were opened and he saw the whole matter clearly. Living fire begets cold, impotent ash” (p. 153).

Okonkow said that about Nowye when he left with the Christian , he was thinking how could a fearless leader like him have a son like Nowye . Then realizes that it is his anger and fire that led to Nowye being the way he is , impotant Ash .
This conveys the theme of pride because it is the only thing that Okonkow is always after and what makes him disdain others who do not meet his standards , like Nowye who in his eyes lacked masculine qualities and made his really aggressive toward , always beating him trying to make him a man leading to leave the whole family .

"’It is against our custom,’ said one of the men. ‘It is an abomination for a man to take his own life. It is an offense against the Earth, and a man who commits it will not be buried by his clansmen. His body is evil, and only strangers may touch it’” (p. 207).

After Okonkow had killed one of the white missionaries the other white missionaries came asking for Okonkow and obreika led them to the tree where he hanged himself . and this was said because in umofia a man who kills himself does not deserve to be burried because the body is evil .
This quote coneys the theme of religion and spirituality because they refused to burry okonkow's body saying that it is evil and he is left for the gods . also oknkows death represent the death of tradition because he was the only one that strongly opposed the Christmas while others either converted or scared to fight or say anything therefore the hope for their tradition deid with okonkow .

"Do not despair. I know you will not despair. You have a manly and a proud heart. A proud heart can survive a general failure because such a failure does not prick its pride. It is more difficult and more bitter when a man fails alone"

In the beggening , chapter 3 when okonkows father was described he tells him to not have too much pride because of he can survive a failure like a harvest other failures will not hurt him or his ego as much .
This quote coneys the theme of parent and child relationship because the main reason why Okonkow is the way he is because of his father he did not want to be like him in any way so all his actions were the opposite of his father's .

“A man could not rise beyond the destiny of his chi. The saying of the elders was not true—that if a man said yea his chi also affirmed. Here was a man whose chi said nay despite his own affirmation” (p. 131).

This was during okonkows exile after he accidently killed Ikumas son , and was banned from the village for seven years.
This conveys the theme of fate and free will because at first Okonkow succeeded even though he came from a poor family and his father was a debotar yet he is one of the most successful leaders in Umofia and it proved the elders saying that a man cannot go beyond the destiny of their God or Chi wrong but it is also the hard work and if a man strongly says yes then his Chi will agree . and when had his exile Okonkow believed that a man cannot go beyond the destiny of his Chi again when it was his own mistake that he shot the kid and his own choice to work hard to get titles .
