She also talks with her hands, which is an effective element of her nonverbal communication to her audience. She shares that, even with a blockbuster film under her belt, she has to find self-doubt. Most of us can relate and the message is powerful. In her commencement speech to the Wellesley College Class of 2015, she discusses gender injustice and feminism, and implores the new graduates -- specifically, the women -- to unapologetically be themselves. Mostly, she uses stories from her own life that evoke an emotional response to communicate her points (pathos), such as a story about growing up in Nigeria and the expectation that she was going to become a doctor when she really wanted to become a writer. She also uses ethos, reminding her audience of her credibility when she discusses being asked to give a talk on a book she hadn't finished and receive a reward. However, she chose not to because she felt that she 1. didn't deserve it and 2. the book's message wasn't realistic. Finally, she makes eye contact throughout her speech and uses facial expressions to communicate the nuances of her stories. All of us have different needs and are very unique individuals but success cannot be determined by one individual. We all impact, and are impacted by, other people's lives (logos). Fred Rogers states throughout the speech that who we are decides the choices we make, and the people around us decide who we are. Fred tells a story about how when he was in college he had a very special and kind astronomy professor, and went on to explain that even now whenever he looks up at the night sky he is reminded of this professor (ethos). Fred gives a very powerful example of how we can effect each other, and it really shows how our kindness and love can have big effects. With this being the case, it is necessary to work as a whole to strengthen each other, to help each other become more than we could ever become on our own (pathos).

She tells 3 fresh out of college stories because she knows they hold hard earned lessons that have helped her guide her footsteps down a path that have helped determine her future. She also has credibility not only because of seniority but also credibility (ethos) because her husband is President Bush. Overall, Barbara uses Aristotle's Appeals to get her point across about how life is a gift and it flies by so fast that we need to
embrace every moment we have and dream big. As Barbara says, you need to "make your future be worthy of your dreams".

She also told stories (Pathos) about people all over the wold who struggle to get an education because of things like discrimination. She told the graduates that should be looking for ways to help these people who are less fortunate then them. Michelle Obama uses her credibility to make her speech even more powerful. She went to about Princeton and Harvard (Ethos). Michelle Obama also uses facts (Logos) To enhance her speech. She also makes contact with the audience, uses facial expressions, and uses some humor. Wilson, a biologist and researcher specializing in ants, makes his commencement address at UNC to focus on the importance of the environment and our global society in relation to it. He tells the audience that he believes the 21st century will mark a major crossroads for humanity in that it will either lead to our downfall, or a major change in our approach to living alongside the natural world. Even as we focus on issues such as pollution, however, he argues that more needs to be done to protect ecosystems and other organisms specifically. He encourages students to pursue further education in preparation for the future in a country that needs as many educated citizens as it can get. In order to convey his ideas to others, he uses mostly ethos and logos, with a little pathos at the beginning. His ethos (ethics and credibility) comes mostly from his position as a well-respected biologist, and is speaking on a subject relating to that field. He also has many publications, with a range of focuses including environmentalism. Verbally he also speaks quite slowly and clearly so that his ideas may be processed, while nonverbally he frequently looks up at the audience. Logos (logic and sense) is his most relied upon appeal in conveying the message of his speech, with his use of logic and scientific facts and statistics to support his reasoning. She talks about how when she first got to Harvard she never thought she would be able to write a 50 page thesis, or pursue her acting career because she thought it to be too childish to have a acting career. She tells several stories from when she was a high school student (pathos), and hard times she went through in her years at Harvard when she had depression.  Overall her speech was very moving and helped the audience better understand believing in themselves.

If I had to pick one idea from the whole speech to call the over arching message, I would say it is to act in ways that build the positive and reduce the negative forces of our interdependence. One of Clinton's first actions in the speech is to establish ethos. He does this by reminiscing about his days as President. He pivots off of this into logos, by talking about statistics that were gathered when he was in office. In his first set of statistics he talks about the human genome, and that all humans are 99.5% genetically identical. He uses this too segway into what is actually different from people to people, and this where he brings up inequality, unsustainability and instability. He says that those three things are responsible for all the negativity in our world, and the best thing a person can do is to try and reduce those negative factors, and work for their positive counterparts.When talking about instability, unsustainability and inequality he continues to use statistics and facts to establish logos, and stories to build pathos.

Graduation can be sad day for some people because everyone is growing up and walking towards the future or graduation can be a relief for others. Ryan Burton's speech uses humor and also seriousness and respect, appreciation of accomplishment they've all done together, and also lighten the mood. He used Appropriate language and subject and also appearing sincere, fair minded knowledgeable and those are ETHOS. Ryan also uses  literal and historical in his speech to bring up the good old memories or the bad reminders which were LOGOS. And lastly but not least Ryan uses a lot of Emotional tone which include humor, sarcasm, disappointment and excitement which is Pathos. He was using pathos by using his own story and by using logical reasoning for why he was saying the things he was saying. He doesn't use much humor but still captures the attention of the audience. He also uses his experience as a parent and his children to show another side of pathos. Using ethos Stephen begins to talk about charity.  "you'll enjoy your own coming meal more fully knowing that you shared your joy and your good fortune in having been a part of this happy occasion." using ethics to show them what else is out there besides money, there is also happiness and how you feel about yourself at the end of the day. Then while using Logos Stephen one more time convinces this student body to not only think about themselves, but think about the people around them who do not have as much as they do. "America contains five percent of the world's population and uses up seventy-five percent of the world's resources," Convincing this graduating class that they came into this world the same way they're going to leave it, broke.
