Montreal is known as Tiotiah:ké by the Kanienkeha:ka. This place has been a very large economic hub prior to colonization and continues to be that, largely because of the abundance of waterways. Montreal is a river island technically “in” the Kaniatarowaneneh (cololnially named the St Lawrence river) waterway. It’s known for a lot of cooperative/worker history and also Franco-fascism.

Many newcomer/immigrant communities located in KW have very few adequate services and are leaving for different reasons. Tech hub of Ontario and, I would say, Canada in general, gentrification and the pushing out of poor, Black, Indigenous and racialized communities as a consequence. Many housing fights and encampments for the unhoused are facing police threats of violence. Ontario has a protected greenbelt (farmland, natural environment, waterways) that is constantly threatened by property development. Many industries located in Ontario affect Black and Indigneous communities in particular from PFAS to other sectors. Parts Manufacture companies are spread around the province that fuel the Zionist occupation of Palestine
