She is very talented at producing this grade A fecal matter. Although she makes up for it with her cuteness, pets in the U.S.  produce about 5.1 million tons of feces in a year, as much as 90 million Americans. That's pretty crappy, especially when you take into account for how they make that much waste. A lot of pets eat meat, and pampering our pooches means that they end up eating food that that could go to humans. According to studies from UCLA, dogs and cats consume about 25 percent of the total calories derived from animals in the United States. A solution could be to fed pets meat products that humans can't/won't eat instead of giving them grass-fed steak. Aside from being an important player in the pollination game (talk about a great wingman) they also play an important role in the all-important food web. They eat crop-destroying pests like caterpillars, weevils, and grubs. They may be mean, territorial, vengeful jerks, but they're mean, territorial, vengeful jerks to everyone, not just us humans. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Many farmers actually release wasps as a form of natural pesticide. Also, researchers at the University of Florence recently discovered another important role of both hornets and paper wasps – they carry yeast cells in their guts. This is important because it's a source of yeast in the wild. It should be noted, however, that wasps are still @$$holes and if their nests are near human habitats, they should probably be taken down, especially if the humans are allergic. Lately, people have been putting up artificial trees, which are generally made out of polyvinyl chloride, AKA PVC, instead of natural pine trees. Their reasoning is that they do not have to cut down more trees, however, this reasoning is generally flawed because they do not realize that the manufacturing of PVC releases carcinogens. Not to mention, the carbon emissions associated with natural trees is one-third of those associated with PVC trees. In order to make artificial trees "greener," people would have to reuse their PVC trees for 20 Christmases. What kind of tree is this, you ask? I wish I could, because 1.3 billion tons of grain are consumed by farm animals each year and all that grain could go to feeding all the starving people in the world. After all, it takes a cow consumes about 75 kg to 300 kg of dry matter to produce a kg of protein. And I would want to be vegan, because dairy has it's own set of problems. Dairy farming means cows need to exist in large numbers, which adds to not only food used on livestock instead of hungry humans, but also to the amount of cow farts contributing to the methane in the atmosphere, which, in turn, adds to greenhouse gases heating up the planet. In conclusion, I know I'm killing the planet, but it's JUST. SO. GOOD. So, I compromised and asked my mom if we could eat less meat. It's not perfect, but if more people ate less meat and cow products, we can really make a difference.
