Throughout KS3 and KS4, we celebrate La Francophonie with literature from BAME authors such as Léopold Sédar Senghor and music from Yeleen, Stromae, Zaz and many more. In year 8, students will study a Senghor poem, and all year groups have their favourite Francophone songs to listen to while they complete written activities. Year 7 compare their school experience with that of a French-American child in France and an Irish-Burkinabé child in Ouagadougou: authentic written and listening files contributed by friends abroad. Year 9s cover a diverse group of role models in their first term, drawing inspiration from a variety of lived experiences. We also run a Spanish after-school club, in which Latin American culture is celebrated through films like Coco and resources for Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead).

In all our teaching resources, we show images of different genders and ethnicities completing different activities; we aim that any child will look at the teaching resources and be able to identify someone like them. Issues of gender and identity are discussed within the framework of the school's core value of kindness, whether explicitly through Theme 1 of the GCSE syllabus, or informally in KS3 when students raise questions about grammar and gender in class.
