<title>Coral reefs are essential in that they provide much needed biodiversity. Almost all coral reefs are breeding grounds for many marine animals. The amount of biodiversity that is found in coral reefs is greater than in any other marine ecosystem. Statistics show that coral reefs provide homes to more than 800 species of coral and 4000 species of fish. </title>

<title>&quot;Key conservation strategies for coral reefs include: Reducing land-based sources of pollution from agricultural runoff, sewage outfall, erosion from bare soils, unsustainable harvest and other key threats. Increasing the use of measurable goals, objectives and coral health thresholds in management planning.&quot;</title>

The CRTF is responsible for mapping and monitoring U.S. coral reefs; researching the causes of coral reef degradation including pollution and over fishing and finding solutions to these problems; and promoting conservation and the sustainable use of coral reefs&quot;</title>
