How Fear Effects Us(Compare)

In the two speeches, they both talk about how fear affects us. In FDR's speech he says, "The only thing to fear, is fear itself." This means that we should only be afraid of being afraid and that we should be strong throughout the dark time they were in. Trump sounds similar by saying, "There should be no fear." This means that we should not be afraid all together, and we should just be strong against our problems. These two show that we have to be strong and fight for what is right.

In the speeches, they talk about the conflicts that are happening at the time, but they are not the same. In FDR's speech, he says, " government of all kinds is faced by serious curtailment of income," meaning that the government is lacking in money. In Trump's speech, however, he says, " Washington flourished – but the people did not share in its wealth," meaning that the government has loads of money, but no one else does.

"Hand in hand with this we must frankly recognize the overbalance of population in our industrial centers and, by engaging on a national scale in a redistribution, endeavor to provide a better use of the land for those best fitted for the land" - FDR

"We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies, and destroying our jobs. Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength." - Trump

The quotes above from Franklin D. Roosevelt and Donald Trump both state different reasons about people of our country. Trump feels that locking people of our country will ave our jobs and protect us from terrorism. Roosevelt feels that our population is fine but cold use redistribution on where our people end up.

“Values have shrunken to fantastic levels; taxes have risen; our ability to pay has fallen; government of all kinds is faced by serious curtailment of income; the means of exchange are frozen in the currents of trade; the withered leaves of industrial enterprise lie on every side; farmers find no markets for their produce; the savings of many years in thousands of families are gone.
More important, a host of unemployed citizens face the grim problem of existence, and an equally great number toil with little return.Only a foolish optimist can deny the dark realities of the moment.” -FDR

“Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system, flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of knowledge; and the crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.” - Trump

These quotes from both Donald Trump and FDR's speeches both state the problems and conflicts going on in our country.

"The task can be helped by definite efforts to raise the values of agricultural products and with this the power to purchase the output of our cities. It can be helped by preventing realistically the tragedy of the growing loss through foreclosure of our small homes and our farms. It can be helped by insistence that the Federal, State, and local governments act forthwith on the demand that their cost be drastically reduced. It can be helped by the unifying of relief activities which today are often scattered, uneconomical, and unequal. It can be helped by national planning for and supervision of all forms of transportation and of communications and other utilities which have a definitely public character. " - FDR

"We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth. And we will bring back our dreams. We will build new roads, and highways, and bridges, and airports, and tunnels, and railways all across our wonderful nation. We will get our people off of welfare and back to work – rebuilding our country with American hands and American labor.

We will follow two simple rules: Buy American and Hire American. We will seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world – but we do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first. We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example for everyone to follow. We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones – and unite the civilized world against Radical Islamic Terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the Earth." -Trump

The following quotes are from Donald Trump and Franklin D. Roosevelt's inaugural speeches state the basic actions our country needs to do in order to thrive again. FDR's actions are more for the people and would allow America to get involves with other agricultural aspects. Trump's actions lean more towards making America more powerful and they don't help Americans communicate as much.
