You are mainly describing what it is, how it works, or what happened.

In my opinion, the main difference between descriptive and critical writing is the level of depth and thinking involved. Descriptive writing focuses on presenting facts, events, or information as they are, without adding interpretation. It tells the reader what happened or what something is. Critical writing goes further by examining why something matters, how ideas connect, and what the implications are. It involves questioning, analysing, comparing, and forming a reasoned judgement based on evidence. I believe critical writing is more valuable in academic work because it shows deeper understanding, but descriptive writing is still important as a foundation for explaining the basic facts before any analysis can take place.
