Article Content: Scientists are studying meteorites from Mars that landed in Morocco following a meteor shower in July of 2011.
Science Curriculum Connection: Careful investigation and new technology are constantly giving scientists better information about the planets in our Solar System.

Key Concepts

In July 2011, many people spotted a fireball in the sky. However, it wasn't until six months later that about 15 pounds of strange rocks were found in Morocco.
Scientists have determined that the rocks are meteorites from Mars. Scientists have named the rock Tissint and hope the meteorites can teach them more about Mars.
Finding rocks from Mars is rare, since known Martian meteorite falls happen only once every 50 years or so. All of the known Martian rocks on Earth add up to less than 240 pounds.
