Since the US won it gave them great pride because they were worried at first when Sputnik was successful. The space race changed both the US and the Soviet Union's perspective on war because they had a competition with a lot of rivalry but they did it without war. Once one country accomplished something the other countries got worried or feared them and they wanted to be better so they made their creations better or more efficient to rise above the other country.

Competition between US and USSR

One way competition was created between the US and USSR was when Sputnik was successful in orbiting the Earth. This made the US worried and mad because they felt defeated and didn't want the Soviets to pass them in advancement in technology so the US worked harder to be better and accomplish something in the space race that would amaze the USSR. When the US won the space race with their moon landing it made the USSR mad because in the beginning they thought they would win or they had a good chance in winning because of Sputnik but when they lost they started saying they were never trying to reach the moon it was just the US having their own "one nation race." Once one country accomplished something big and successful others would fear that and want to grow bigger than that country so they did all they could to make something or accomplish something bigger. This is like militarism, when a country grew their military and weapons other countries feared them so they wanted to make sure they were better or on the same level so they grew their military as well but in this case it was with machines, spaceships, satellites to get to the moon.

Technology in the present

Now in present day we have better technology for everything. NASA have better computers to look at and measure certain things they need for when they go to space again and are looking at satellites. There are also much better and more efficient ways to calculate things like when needed to calculate how long the technology going in space will be gone for, how big it needs to be, how much a certain thing needs. Everything has a more efficient way of being calculated as time went on to the present. There have been lots of practice and studies to know what is right and what is wrong and what will work and what won't work. There are many other technology types that have made the studies into sending more and more into space go faster.
