Although Sarah did not experience the Great Depression firsthand, she learned about its impact from her uncle and the importance of government intervention to prevent economic crises. Her uncle specifically states that the Great Depression proved that conservatism had failed; In the perspective of the conservative party, the end to the Great Depression was to perform no action and wait patiently where the election of FDR would work the country out of the GD without assistance of the government. The result of no immediate action was how the country sank between 1929 to 1932, leaving many families in loss.
