Sepsis is a disease that can be life-threatening. Sepsis happens when chemicals that are released into the blood to fight an infection cause inflammatory responses to happen in the body. The inflammation can cause tons of changes that can damage multiple organ systems, which cause them to stop working. If sepsis continues to septic shock, blood pressure drops a huge amount, which could lead to death. Anyone can get sepsis, but it happens the most and is most dangerous to older adults or people with weakened immune systems.
