Walker graduated college in 1965, and moved to Mississippi where she took part in a civil rights movement. From there on, she expressed her rich African culture and her passion for civil rights in her writings. He felt that he did not know enough about slavery and the brutal accounts of the travesty and what it truly did to a slave’s mind.
