the most important reason for imperialism to Prince Leopold II was economics. Prince Leopold wanted to gain power and prosperity through creating colonies on unoccupied lands for resources to continue advancing. He also wanted to use the land as a field of opportunities. In order for him to enlighten indigenous peoples as his duty and show the world that Belgium can be dominant, he had to obtain the land and the money first through creating colonies. All in all, in order to show power through ethnocentrism and nationalism, he had to first complete the economic aspect, making economics the most important reason for imperialism.

The most important reason to Prince Leopold was nationalism. This is because he wanted to gain land, money, and power setting his nation equal to or greater than the powers of his day. He also knows that the whole world is out there for the taking, and the more land they grab, the more superiority over others they will get.

Leopold finds it important to imperialize abroad because he believes it will heighten their status and prove their worth to the rest of the world. He demonstrates this by saying, "to prove to the world that Belgians also are an imperial people..."

Prince Leopold wanted to dominate all countries, civilize all others in all senses, and he wanted prosperity from the colonies.

Nationalism was his most important reason to impearialize.
