If we use the concept of assessment as the bridge between teaching and learning then the bridge is the difference between what has been learnt and what has been taught. Teachers need to understand this difference so they need to engage with learners about this. Learners need to actively reflect on where they are stuck, why they are stuck and be able to articulate that with the teacher. This in turn assists the teacher to think about why the learning did not occur and why they might be part of the problem. Active reflection from students, active reflection from teachers.

Start with Active Reflection as a staff thinks about their strategic goal for achievement at the beginning of the year. How did we do the previous year , so what are our new goals , drilling down to what are my personal goals as a teacher. This works to lift teachers out of a linear approach to the archway capabilities and helps them see that this is also in Assessment literacy . When I self assess as a teacher what are my gaps , so what are my next learning steps ( matrix)
