They understood that the change in climate is due to human activities such as air and water pollution, fires, etc. This has the effect of increasing carbon dioxide and raising the temperature of the earth.

Κατανόησαν πως η μεταβολή στο κλίμα οφείλεται σε ανθρώπινες δραστηριότητες όπως η ρύπανση της ατμόσφαιρας και των υδάτων, οι πυρκαγιές κ.α.. Αυτό έχει ως αποτέλεσμα να αυξάνεται το διοξείδιο του άνθρακα και να ανεβαίνει η θερμοκρασία της γης.

Bookmarks and puzzles on climate change and the role of trees in protecting the environment,   as well as what people should do about it. Our students drew, cut, created and played after a class discussion.

3^ο Δημοτικό Σχολείο Παλαμά – Καρδίτσας Α΄ Τάξη

Οι μαθητές μας δημιούργησαν μια αφίσα με σλόγκαν: «Η Γη έχει πυρετό» και αποτύπωσαν στο χαρτί που οφείλεται η αύξηση της θερμοκρασίας της Γης. Το διοξείδιο του άνθρακα, τα σκουπίδια, τα βιομηχανικά λύματα είναι παράγοντες που οδηγούν στην κλιματική αλλαγή με δυσχερείς συνέπειες για το περιβάλλον: ξηρασία, λιώσιμο των πάγων, πλημμύρες και πυρκαγιές.

3^rd Primary School of Palamas – Karditsa, 1rst grade

Our students created a poster with the slogan: "The Earth has a fever" and printed on the paper what is causing the increase in the temperature of the Earth. Carbon dioxide, garbage, industrial effluents are factors that lead to climate change with difficult consequences for the environment: drought, melting ice, floods and fires.

The following images capture the the students at Thyrreio Kindergarten to understand the importance of protecting trees and their connection to climate change. In the group activity, the children discuss and design the elements that trees need to remain healthy and beautiful, such as clean air, water, and proper care from humans. They also explore the threats trees face from both natural and human-made causes, such as wildfires, pollution from factory smoke, and other environmental disasters.

Next, the students complete an individual task where they are asked to express their views on what they have learned about trees and climate change. This task helps reinforce their personal understanding and the knowledge they gained through discussion and creation. The educational video on climate change further contributed to strengthening their awareness of the consequences of human activity on the planet.

Κατόπιν, προχωρήσαμε σε ψηφοφορία για να διαπιστώσουμε κατά πόσο τα παιδιά θεωρούν ότι έχει έρθει η ώρα να αναλάβουμε συλλογικές δράσεις με σκοπό την προστασία του περιβάλλοντος. Τέλος, μέσα από ειδικά σχεδιασμένα φύλλα εργασίας, ενισχύσαμε την κατανόηση των εννοιών που παρουσιάστηκαν, δίνοντας έμφαση στην κριτική σκέψη και την ενεργή συμμετοχή.

Ως κορύφωση της εκπαιδευτικής εμπειρίας, κάθε μαθητής είχε την ευκαιρία να δημιουργήσει το δικό του σύνθημα, το οποίο, κατά τη γνώμη του, αντικατοπτρίζει τις απαιτήσεις και τις ανάγκες της Γης. Μέσα από αυτή τη διαδικασία, επιδιώξαμε όχι μόνο την ευαισθητοποίηση για το περιβαλλοντικό ζήτημα, αλλά και την ενίσχυση των δεξιοτήτων επικοινωνίας και δημιουργικής έκφρασης των παιδιών.

At the 3rd Kindergarten of Mournies, we conducted an in-depth exploration of the concept of climate change using narrative stories, visual materials, relevant documentaries, and online videos. The educational process began with identifying the children’s pre-existing knowledge, followed by an interactive discussion aimed at addressing their questions and concerns regarding the topic.

Subsequently, we proceeded with a vote to determine whether the children felt that it was time to undertake collective actions for environmental protection. Finally, through specially designed worksheets, we reinforced their understanding of the concepts presented, placing an emphasis on critical thinking and active participation.

As the culmination of the educational experience, each student had the opportunity to create their own slogan, which, in their view, reflects the demands and needs of the Earth. Through this process, we aimed not only to raise awareness about environmental issues but also to enhance the children’s communication skills and creative expression abilities.

While talking to the students about climate change, we explained what it is and whether humans actually have an impact on climate change. While examining this topic, we discussed, watched educational videos, played interactive games, looked for information in books and on the Internet. To help students understand climate-related concepts, we conducted STEAM activities and educational experiments. We explained: why waste sorting is important; who pollutes the air; who is polluting the water and whether it can be cleaned; what is the greenhouse effect; does the tree really breathe? We were interested in what makes a tree, how long it takes for a tree to grow, why trees are so important. Talking to children about climate change encourages them to think about how to make green decisions that can slow the rate of climate change.

We teached our students about trees that are crucial in every season for the health of our planet and the well-being of all living things. They support wildlife, clean the air, help with water management, and provide food and shelter.Remember, talking care of the trees helps take care of the Earth!

Moreover, we discusted about the wind energy and how it works, why it's important, the benefits and how we can harness natural forces to create cleaner energy for the future. For this reason we created fun activity to explain wind energy to our students using the trees they have created. Students will understand the concept of the wind energy and its role in nature by 'making wind' to power their handmade trees. This activity makes learning about wind energy interactive and fun while connecting it to the trees they have crafted.

Through this topic, students of the Primary School of Thirio "got in contact" with the climate change phenomenon of our planet. Through videos, we discussed the concept, many of its important terms, explained points that were not fully understood by students and learned new and important information about the subject. Students were asking lots of questions during the activities, which made us underastand the great interest they had in the phenomenon. In the end, we did various consolidation activities.

In order to consolidate what they learned about climate change, our students did various activities. They created a board game, made bookmarks, played crosswords and completed worksheets. Τheir excitement was evident, as it turned out, cause they had the chance to learn many new things and enjoyed the process. Τhey, also, worked well, as a team, and this is what constitutes an important goal for us in every activity.

🌱 Description of the Project

The "Planting Our Future" project aims to engage students in an interactive educational journey, using the STEAM method (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) to understand and combat climate change. Through various activities, students will discover the impact of these changes and identify sustainable solutions to protect the environment.

✅ Debate – Identifying and discussing solutions to reduce the impact on the planet.

✅ Creative activities – Making drawings, collages and artistic projects to express ecological ideas.

🌍 Objective:

Through this project, we want to develop students' critical thinking, creativity and civic spirit, encouraging them to become agents of change for a greener future!

Our students were informed by reading fairy tales about what trees offer ( oxygen, absorption of carbon dioxide, shade, rest, nests of birds and animals, timber, fruits…) Then followed the specific artistic intervention.

Οι μαθητές μας ενημερώθηκαν μέσω της ανάγνωσης παραμυθιών για το τι προσφέρουν τα δέντρα ( οξυγόνο, απορρόφηση του διοξειδίου του άνθρακα, σκιά, ξεκούραση, φωλιά πουλιών και ζώων, ξυλεία, καρπούς…). Στη συνέχεια ακολούθησε η συγκεκριμένη εικαστική παρέμβαση.

We watched videos explaining climate changes and how it affects animals, humans and nature. We read stories related to this topic. We also did various experiments with the children to understand the impact of climate change. We added a piece of ice in a container with blue water and a polar bear (toy) and left it out in the sun. As the ice melted the children saw that the polar bear lost slowley its home and the water graduly rose up. We also saw the difference in the tempreture when we have a thermometre closed in a container and one out. Also we created Co2 gas with vivnger, Baking soda and a small plastic bag.

At the 1st Public Kindergarten of Aglantzia in Cyprus, we learned about climate change through various fairy tales and educational videos. Initially, we studied the greenhouse effect and the children drew what they understood from the videos they saw. Then we read Greta Gunberg's fairy tale, "Our Home is in Danger", we talked about the actions of man that destroy the planet (fires, cutting down trees, factories, garbage in the seas, exhaust fumes) and each child wrote their own slogan for the planet.
