These character traits also mean that Hayley won't trust anyone, or change her opinions about people. For example, in the book, Hayley's stepmother, Trish, comes to live with her and Andy for a little, but even though Trish said that she was there to help her and her dad, Hayley wouldn't change her opinion that Hayley is a mean person, who has an agenda with everything she does. Hayley was stubborn and wouldn't let Trish stay with them or help them. Also, she doesn't rely on her dad to make sure they have food, take her places, etc. It seems like she is used to not having Andy there for helping her too too much, so she is grown to be very independent. So, when she first starts seeing Finn, she doesn't trust or rely on him, and it takes her awhile to trust him.
