Though the fog continues to haunt him, he learns he was found in a different location from where he believed the attack occurred, raising questions about the true nature of his experience. When he returns home, he receives a threatening note, warning him that he won’t be so lucky next time. Max and Surge, lifelong friends with a strained relationship, arrive at Belles Rock Cave, a supposedly haunted cave known for strange hallucinations. Max, often annoyed by Surge, pressures him to hurry as they explore the eerily perfect circular entrance and misty, ominous path. Inside, they follow an unusual tunnel lined with spiraling stalagmites. As they venture deeper, strange events occur: their phones die, paths change unexpectedly, and each begins to hear eerie echoes of the other’s voice, leading to confusion and fear.

Eventually, Surge is separated from Max and becomes disoriented, slipping into a semi-conscious state. Meanwhile, Max realizes she’s alone and discovers Surge’s impaled, bloodied body hanging from the cave ceiling, suggesting he had been dead for some time. Desperate to escape, Max injures herself severely, even amputating her leg in an attempt to free herself. But her escape ends as a boulder rolls toward her, crushing her and leaving her with a final, regretful reflection about her mistreatment of Surge.

The story ends with an ambiguous hint of others approaching the cave, undeterred by the cave’s ominous reputation, as the cycle of horror seems poised to begin again.
