Chinchillas are found in the warm climate of the Andes mountains in northern Chile. The long-tailed Chinchilla lives in the warm climate at a low altitude of the Andes while the short-tailed Chinchilla lives in the high altitude of the Andes.

Chinchillas are vegetarians, they eat plant leaves, fruit, seeds, and small insects.

Chinchillas have big ears so they can hear their preditors. They have very thick fur so when preditors bite them or try to attack them their fur is released from their body so they can get away. They live in little burrows under the ground or within rovks. They usually live in groups called "herds".

Chinchillas are night animals. They bathe by roling around in dust. They live in herds, sometimes they will help eachother by picking things out of eachothers fur.

Chinchillas environment is not very changing unlike the Michigan and Ohio area. thier weather is pretty constant, dry and warm and chilly. While here it is always changing sometimesz it is freezing and other times it is very hot. Chinchillas cant live with this differ in climate. They will not last long with our temperature changing. There are also many more preditors here than in their region of living.

Chinchillas would need to be more suited for the cold weather. They would also need to be able to survive in hot weather too. They would also have to change their eating habbits, there isnt the kind of food around here like there is in the Andes. They would have to be able to eat the plants that we have in this area. Their hair color will also have to change, most chinchillas are a gray or a brown color to blend in with the surrounding rock that they live in. Here we dont have dust or rock for them to blend into. we have trees and grass. they would have to find better ways to blend in with their surroundings.
