He didn't felt the support of people (angels). He just felt all the bad things, he felt alone, without one single person supporting him. His angles weren't present in that moment, but they started to be present at the time that he got with jacks family. His angles were there for him in this moment, but in the past he didn't felt like his angles were there for him. In this Christmas, he got to learn a lot, about religion and to trust. I think that he was mostly looking for answers referring to the hard times he went through. He was referring to why he thought that angels were not real or simply not with him because he felt like he had not been accompanied by them.Even if the reverend tells him they are real and are with you in the rough times, I think that Joseph is so hurt by his past that it makes it impossible for him to believe in them. I think that in that moment that people was talking about angels and that angels take care of you and all that, he got mad because he was thinking that if all that was true, why they abandoned him in bad times? why did HE have to go through all this? Why is he separated from maddie and Jupiter? After everything that happen and what is happening, it is difficult for him to believe that better times will come.
